Avoiding distraction during your morning commute

MILLIONS OF DOLLARS RECOVERED FOR OUR CLIENTS

Driving distractions can happen at any time. They are always dangerous and they always increase the odds of a crash. Drivers should constantly be focused on the road, refraining from using cellphones, talking to passengers and much more. Distracted driving is one of the top reasons for car accidents in the United States.

But these distractions are especially problematic during the morning commute to the office because traffic congestion already increases the odds of getting involved in a traffic accident. A driver who is distracted has a very high risk of crashing because they have less reaction time.

So how do you avoid these distractions? How do you stay safe when commuting? Let’s look at a few of the common distractions so you know what not to do in order to keep yourself safe.

Drinking coffee

Interestingly, even though the majority of Americans drink coffee every single day, it’s a major driving distraction. Grabbing a cup of coffee from Starbucks on the way to work could be the difference between getting in an accident and arriving safely at the office. It’s much safer to drive to work and drink coffee at your desk.

Starting work for the day

Some people decide to use their commute to get started on work. They may use their cellphone to read or respond to emails, for example. They may send text messages to members of their team. They could make phone calls to local business owners. All of this feels like they are getting an extra jump on the day, but they’re just making it more likely that they will crash on the way to work.

Personal grooming

Another problematic aspect of rushing to work is that some drivers know they are late and they hurry out of the house without shaving, putting on makeup, combing their hair or doing other basic grooming tasks. But trying to get ready for work in the car dramatically increases accident risks. Planning ahead – or skipping some of these steps – is much safer.

What if someone else injures you?

Even if you avoid these activities, other drivers could get distracted and injure you in an accident. Be sure you are well aware of your legal options.

    "Thank you, Martin."
When I got injured, I knew I was going to be out of work. I knew I was going to be struggling with my family. I was really worried about the direction my life had turned towards. If I hadn't contacted Martin Haxel. I would still be fighting to get what I deserved. What was owed to me. Mr. Haxel however, stayed with me. He told me the truth. He didn't lie, or manipulate anything. He was honest and informative. He was the hope I didn't have at that time. He struggled with me to get all of it resolved. He did it with integrity, honesty, and a sincere understanding of what I was going through. To anyone considering having Mr. Haxel represent them in similar situations...I would say, you couldn't pick a better person. He's a great lawyer. He does great work. He's a nice person with a lot of experience in this field. If there's anyone you can turn to when no one will listen or even attempt to help you do what is right...Mr. Haxel is the one. I can't say enough good things about him. Now that my case is settled thanks to his work, I'm going to miss having someone having my back. He's a good man and I hope he feels good about what he's done when he lays down to sleep and reflects on his days, weeks, months, and years. People like him, give people hope, and faith that there are good people still roaming around this crazy thing called life. Martin, thank you. You're a beast.
